Brooke Hertzler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has 20-plus years experience working in the area of mental health treatment and leadership. She has worked with individuals of all ages providing various treatment modalities; such as individual, family, couples, and group therapy.

Brooke’s therapeutic framework is client-centered and strength based leading to Modern Mental Health being the best therapy Pittsburgh Pennsylvania has to offer. She incorporates various evidenced based practices and techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). She believes that every individual is unique and that together–during the therapeutic journey–there is hope, safety, and strength to overcome any obstacle.

Brooke earned her Master’s Degree of Social Work in 2004 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Her undergraduate work was completed in 2000 at Shippensburg University, where she earned her Bachelor of Social Work. She has worked in many different settings and started off her career working with victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse. She transitioned to Foster Care Social Work in the Philadelphia area working with children/families, and then during her master’s program at Penn, she began her journey specifically focused on individuals struggling with mental health concerns. She has worked mostly in outpatient mental health settings, either in private practices or hospital locations, but also has leadership experience working as an associate director of an adult mental health subacute facility in the Philadelphia area.

Brooke has specialized working with individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), bi-polar disorder I & II, Schizoaffective disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), Germaphobia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma related disorder, postpartum depression and other issues related women’s health, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), eating disorders, body image issues, grief/loss, and chronic pain/ overall health management concerns.

Originally from the Harrisburg region, Brooke relocated to the Pittsburgh area in 2022. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She most enjoys traveling, cooking, yoga, hiking, and swimming.

Brooke Hertzler, LCSW- Brooke is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with 2 decades of experience working in the area of mental health treatment and leadership. She has worked with individuals of all ages from as low as 3- years-old to 85 years old, providing various treatment modalities; such as individual, family, couples, and group therapy.

At Modern Mental Health, she will be focusing her work with individuals 18 years and older, but is open to considering any age and specific case as needed based on her extensive background and skill set. Brooke earned her Master’s Degree of Social Work in 2004 at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with honors under the advanced standing program acceptance. Her undergraduate work was completed in 2000 at Shippensburg University, in Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor of Social Work.

She has worked in many different settings, since the year of her graduation in 2000 with her bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University. This diligence has led to Modern Mental Health being the best therapy Pittsburgh PA has to offer.

She started her career working with victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse. She worked with adults and children providing short- term counseling services. In addition to providing the short term counseling services, she also did group counseling and education for the schools regarding domestic violence and sexual assault awareness. She provided crisis support to victims that were sexually assaulted and also provided advocacy on their behalf. She also provided crisis support and legal advocacy support for victims to obtain emergency protection from abuse (PFA) within Dauphin County in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

She eventually transitioned to Foster Care Social Work in the North Philadelphia area working with children/families, and then during her master’s program at Penn, she began her journey specifically focused on individuals struggling with mental health concerns. She has worked mostly in outpatient mental health settings, either in private practices or hospital locations, but also has leadership experience working as an associate director of an adult mental health subacute facility in the Philadelphia area. Brooke has worked as a Behavioral Specialist Consult(BSC) and provided behavioral plans across home and school settings. Brooke also provided training programs in the community surrounding suicide awareness/prevention. She facilitated 2-day ASIST trainings in Delaware County to teach how to directly intervene with people in crisis having suicidal ideation. She has provided presentations surrounding community mental health services and advocacy throughout her career and within the communities she has lived.

Brooke’s current passion is her work with individuals with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder I & II, Schizoaffective disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Germaphobia, ADHD/ADD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -PTSD and trauma, postpartum depression and other issues related women’s health, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, PMDD, eating disorders- Anorexia, Bulimia binge eating disorder, body image issues, grief/loss, and chronic pain/ overall health management concerns.
